A remote tented buschamp on a bend in the Luangwa River, deep inside the national park, Tena Tena is one of Zambia’s most exclusive bushcamps. The five spacious tents have that simple luxury and comfort that is a Robin Pope trademark, with high, comfortable beds, stylish rugs and vibrant textiles to bring extra colour under the welcome shade of canvas. The en-suite bathrooms are open air for showers under the stars, while each tent also has a veranda with views of either the river or the permanent artificial water hole next to camp. Only a small camp, there is a cosy bar area and raised dining platform, but meals are often enjoyed al fresco to give an extra sense of the bush.
Walking safaris and day and night game drives are outstanding from Tena Tena, led by some of Africa’s finest guides to enjoy the varied wildlife of the Nsefu sector, with good sightings of leopard, lion, hyena, elephant and Thornicroft’s giraffe. Very different in style from its sister bushcamp Nsefu, week-long safaris with stays at both, in addition to the Robin Pope base at Nkwali, provide a range of memorable safari experiences.
