Opened in July 2010 as a partnership between Chongwe Safaris and the local community, this rustic bushcamp is set on the beautiful Tsika Island. Chongwe have been given exclusive access to this tree-lined island in the middle of the magnificent Zambezi, 35km downstream from its main river camp, permitting superb canoe safaris between the two. The camp is set on the south side of the island, amid albida groves and reed channels, while the north is mainly sandy.
There are just three bush rooms with thatched roofs and partially open frontages, as there are no predators on the island. The bathrooms have bucket showers and lighting throughout is solar powered to minimise environmental impact. There is also a central dining area under a thatched roof, with local artefacts, a bar and a lawn with comfortable seating around a campfire. Guests at Tsika combine canoeing with community based activities in the Mugurumeno village on the mainland, which also receives proceeds from every booking to put towards development, education and conservation.
