Recently taken over by Robin Pope Safaris, Luangwa River Camp is a five-room luxury safari camp, ideal for couples and honeymooners. Based in the (relatively) busy Mfuwe area of the South Luangwa National Park, on the opposite bank of the river to most of its near neighbours, the camp combines tranquillity and seclusion with excellent game viewing activities in an area where the abundant wildlife is more accustomed to vehicles. The five Bush Suites are spacious and intriguingly designed, with local materials and fabrics prominent in creating an aesthetic that is innovative and modern. All have massive sunken bath tubs in the en-suite bathrooms, and large, shaded decks to watch animals come to the river during the afternoon.
The camp has a stylish central lounge and bar area, a small infinity plunge pool and a range of locations to serve meals, either privately or communally. During the dry season, guests can walk across the dry river bed to commence a game drive, or drive out to more remote areas of the park for a full-blown walking safari. With a cool, languid atmosphere distinct from the more rustic bushcamps elsewhere, and excellent value rates, Luangwa River Camp offers a distinct style and sophistication.
