Making delightful use of rustic, natural materials such as reed, thatch and grass, Crocodile River Camp is ideally suited for purpose as a walking camp on the Chikoko Trails route. Everything about the camp is simple but cosy, with hammocks dotted around the grounds and a small thatched chitenje looking out through the ebony trees to the dambos where hippos relax during the day and emerge at night.

The three enclosed chalets are spacious and comfortable, with raffia rugs, high thatch roofs and brightly coloured textiles to bring a touch of local life to the design. But this camp, roughly equidistant between Tafika and Chikoko, is all about the outdoor life, from the majestic wildlife around camp to the impeccably guided walking safaris and the unique atmosphere of dinner around a roaring campfire under the stars. With walking safaris only, this won’t be to everybody’s taste but it’s Shangri-La for those who enjoy remote locations and authentic walking safaris deep in the African bush.
