The Kafue is simply made for hot air balloon adventures. The vast, open Busanga Plains, with its teeming wildlife and picturesque patchwork of lagoons, tree islands and floodplains, looks absolutely stunning from above. The slower pace of a balloon flight makes this arguably even more enticing than a helicopter flight over the Kafue, with less noise to disturb the animals. The big game that characterises the park, from sweeping herds of buffalo to playful hippo pods, lone elephants and majestic lion prides, can all be spotted and followed from above.

Perhaps best of all is the sheer peace and isolation of this huge national park, which can again perhaps best be appreciated from an elevated vantage point and at a languid pace. It is probably this that gives ballooning in the Kafue the edge over even more renowned hot air balloon safaris in the Masai Mara and Serengeti.
