The Zambezi is a fabulous river for fishing and the Lower Zambezi is undoubtedly the best fishing destination in Zambia. The prize catch is the protected tiger fish, and all of the major lodges offer tiger fishing activities with experienced guides. There is a great buzz to landing the big one, and these impressive, feisty specimens are true game fish, growing to weights of up to 10kg and with a sharp set of teeth that you will need to steer clear of when reeling them in.
Helped by your guide, you don’t need to be an expert to reel in a tiger fish, and the catch and release policy enforced stringently in both the national park and Game Management Area means there are no attendant feelings of remorse and zero impact on the unique biodiversity of the river. Equipment, bait and refreshments are all provided on a fishing activity, which can turn into an early evening Zambezi cruise where you stop for sundowners before returning to camp to discuss your catch of the day.
