Elephant-back safaris are an amazing way to experience the game parks on either side of the river at Victoria Falls. From your gently rocking vantage point atop several metres of African elephant, you’re likely to spot other (wild) elephants, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and other plains game, while down by the river, hippo and crocodile may also be seen.
The peaceful pachyderms are all “rescue” elephants, each with its own handler who knows their character and can help you get to know them as well. In addition to riding the elephant for about an hour, you’ll also have the chance to interact with them and learn more about each individual and the species in general for an extra couple of hours. Early morning and afternoon safaris are generally offered, both on the Zambian and Zimbabwean side of the border.
