Various camps in the South Luangwa offer massage treatments on request, but the best organised, stocked and (arguably) located “bush spa” is at Mfuwe Lodge. The setting is memorable, on a private, sheltered deck overlooking a lagoon where hippo pods grunt and gurgle noisily throughout the day, and a huge volume of other wildlife visits for refreshments. The spa offers a range of conventional treatments with a local twist, adapted to suit the surroundings and the unique ambience of receiving a treatment surrounded by the sights, sounds and smells of the African bush.
All of the treatments are administered by qualified local therapists, who will offer a herbal drink on arrival and ensure you are completely relaxed before the session commences. There is also a wonderful jacuzzi with panoramic views out to the lagoon, perfect for relaxing and viewing game after a rejuvenating massage with aromatic oils. Couples massages are offered, and this is undoubtedly an ideal experience for honeymooners. Guests at Mfuwe Lodge should have plenty of time to fit in a treatment, and it is also available for people en route to the bushcamps in the south of the park. We would recommend booking a treatment in advance, where possible.
